Good afternoon everyone… Andrew is right behind Colin at the moment! Its going to be an exciting last 4 days! Yesterday’s quiz was a Purple Heron (Ardea purpurea). It feeds in shallow water, spearing fish, frogs, insects and small mammals. It will often wait motionless for prey, or slowly stalk its victim. It tends to keep within reedbeds more than the Grey Heron, and is often inconspicuous, despite its size. In the last 5 years I only saw it once in the Kalahari, and that was after a very wet season.
