Safari Time!

Good day everyone, our safari season is starting and the sightings are heating up, so is the weather. The hotter, the more animals depend on water, so activities around the waterholes and rivers are picking up. Elephants bathing, predators lurking and birds very active early mornings.
We will be hosting safaris on Chiefs Island, Kalahari, Khwai & Savuti over the next 2 months. Looking forward to some great sightings.
Just a quick note about our Kalahari Safari next year in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. We only have 2 spots left for 26 November – 02 December 2017.

Biting Back!

Good morning.
We are heading back to the bush after a resupply in Maun. Sightings have been great and the winter is gone. Things are heating up and getting very dry. My favourite time of the year, hot, sweaty and in November the beautiful dramatic skylines appear with amazing sunsets.
We share with you today an image I took last week of a mongoose that did not give up easily. It gave this young lion a very uncomfortable bite on the nose. Although the 2 lions did kill 2 mongoose, this particular one made it after the lion dropped it and ran back into an old aardvark hole.
This was only the second time I have ever seen this behaviour. They do not eat the mongoose, it is all about the chase for the lions.

We have 2 more spaces left on our October Safari in the Savuti/Khwai. Interested?

The last month we had good and frequent sightings & are enjoying the changes in the landscape. Its getting drier and colder day by day.
Yesterday morning we got woken up by two lions around our fireplace, so we got up and followed them till sunrise and spent the morning with them. What great privilege.
We share with you today a young female leopard crossing Second Bridge early one morning a few weeks ago in the Moremi Game Reserve.
Enjoy and see you soon.

Khwai Concession • This mopane dominated 1800 sq km wildlife concession is located
on the eastern edge of the Okavango Delta, on the edge of the Moremi Game Reserve. The Acacia and Leadwood lined Khwai River itself is the sole source of water for miles around, and is frequented by a spectacular array of game. Khwai is made up of sweeping grasslands, riparian forests and oodplains that are ooded most of the year. This is the raptor capital of Botswana: sh eagles, bateleur, tawny, martial and brown snake eagles line the river bank alongside lanner falcons. Resident packs of Wilddog offer some of the best opportunities with this species. Lion, leopard, cheetah, and hyena are commonly sighted at Khwai.
Savuti, Chobe National Park • Located in the south-west of the Chobe National Park, comprising a lush, expansive marsh, riverine habitat and mopane woodland. Its characteristic granite hills provide a visual relief with a three-dimensional perspective for those accustomed to the at topography of the rest of Botswana!
With food scarce during the past Savute Channel drought, the lions became specialized hunters of elephants and continue today, despite the abundance of alternative food sources.
The annual zebra migration is followed by high numbers of predators, mainly lion, which can make for action packed sightings in Savute. Good sightings of cheetah and leopard are also probable, along with that of the endangered wild dog.

Signing off for 2015!

Good morning everyone. After a long year of getting stuck in water, mud and breakdowns, amazing sightings, building up and breaking down our base-camp, we have come to the end of our year. We will be back in the Delta in February to continue our adventure. After a slow start in 2015, the last 4 months in the Moremi Game Reserve picked up a lot, and we made lots of new friends in our campsite. Leopard, hyenas, a serval, ellies and plenty of lions. Our friend Tom Moerel from Switzerland assisted us for 5 weeks in October/November and supported Noa with film work. We ended the year with 2 amazing Chiefs Island Photographic Safaris. Lots of laughing and great sightings. Sightings included lions, leopards, cheetah, general game and hundreds of bird species. There is 2 dates put out for next year, 18-22 and 23-27 November 2016. Let us know if you are interested.
We are signing off for the year and hope to see you in February when we return to the Okavango Delta for another adventurous year.
Have a wonderful Xmas and festive season.
